Tensions is a series of films that developed a cult following in the early 2000s, when Whitey mixed insane bodyboarding with jackass-style shenanigans in an era that screamed core and said no to consequences.

You’d watch the guys towing or paddling into waves that blew your mind, then cut to the same guys in full menace mode, out and about and not taking no for an answer. The films were funny and core to the bone. Calling them polished would have been an insult, and that was the point. Whitey reckons his first video took a week to make.

The films were passed around the bodyboarding scene, copied and rewatched until the VHS wore out. When a few clips did reach the highly prestigious A Current Affair, the shows presented them as proof the nation’s youth were going off the rails...the perfect fuel to stoke a bodyboarding fire!

Then the series stopped.

Bodyboarding shrank, the crew got older, and the photogs moved to stand-up surfing, where they would try again to earn a living.... Tension became a memory for anyone who was there.

We were there and we remember it.

It came back because of a live show, almost 20 years later. Whitey screened the old clips to a room full of people who’d grown up on them, and the reaction was stronger than anyone expected. Grown men losing it over footage they’d last seen on VHS. Whitey bought a camera the next day.

What followed was Tension 11. It still kept the rough, thrown-together feel that made the originals what they were, but it added a next level of cinematography... and banter. The crew chased monster swells, discovered new waves, rinsed their mates and Whitey went back on tour with it.

It worked. By the end of 2025, surf media was talking about how a bodyboard film had just made the best surf movie of the year. Legit!

And now, here we are, Tension 12, and another nationwide premiere tour.
